What is relationship coaching?

Relationship coaching can help people achieve greater satisfaction in their intimate and personal relationship. Relationship coaching does not necessarily mean to work with both partners in the relationship. Coaching helps client explore their negative beliefs about Relationships and let go of painful thoughts whilst achieving and creating their own relationship vision.

Relationship coaches also work with clients who are single and would like to be in a relationship but due to their troubled relationship history they have difficulty in finding a suitable partner and or have struggles in maintaining a healthy relationship. In other cases coaches meet with both partners, and teach communication skills, conflict resolution, and other coaching tools meant for couples to achieve greater intimacy, playfulness, and the ability to fall in love with the same person many over and over again. Relationship coaches typically have experience in a variety of relationship dynamics, from romantic relationships to family relations and friendships.

Is relationship coaching the same as “couples therapy”?

Relationship coaching is not “couples therapy,” just as life coaching is not psychotherapy. As a metaphor therapists could be seen as the surgeons, and coaches as personal trainers.

If you’re experiencing relationship troubles, a coach might help you clear up your thinking, get you to see things from a different angle and help you set inspiring new goals. However, in the case of ongoing painful issues, unhealed childhood wounds and mental illnesses, coaching may not be the right approach and couples therapy would be recommended instead

Unlike therapy, relationship coaching rarely requires you to re-tell your childhood story, but it can help you find peace with where you are in the present moment.

Relationships & Being Relational

Relationships are not just about boyfriends, girlfriends or spouse, it’s also about the interaction we have with our children, work colleagues, neighbours, friends, business partners, bosses, mother & father in laws, in fact any connection we have with another human being. It sounds so simple: say what you mean. But all too often, what we try to communicate gets lost in translation despite our best intentions. We say one thing, the other person hears something else, and misunderstandings, frustration, and conflicts ensue.

Fortunately, you can learn how to communicate more clearly and effectively. Whether you’re trying to improve communication with your spouse, kids, boss, or coworkers, you can improve the communication skills that enable you to effectively connect with others, build trust and respect, and feel heard and understood.
